Court orders exhuming remains of 114 July martyrs for identification
The court also ordered the Dhaka district magistrate to appoint an executive magistrate in this regard.

A Dhaka court today (4 August) ordered the authorities concerned to exhume the remains of 114 martyrs of the 2024 July mass uprising from the Rayerbazar Intellectuals' Graveyard for collecting DNA samples and preparing postmortem reports for their identification.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order as the Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-inspector Md Mahidul Islam filed a plea in this connection, according to court sources.
The court also ordered the Dhaka district magistrate to appoint an executive magistrate for this under section 176 (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Police in their plea said many men and women embraced martyrdom at different times and dates across the capital during the uprising, of which 114 were buried in Rayerbazar Intellectuals' Graveyard as unidentified.
"It is necessary to exhume the bodies of the martyrs through a proper legal process to identify them and take legal steps in the future. Postmortem reports of these bodies should be prepared, and the identity should be confirmed through DNA collection of the bodies. In addition, after confirming the identity through DNA profiling, necessary measures should be taken to hand over the bodies to their families as per the demand of the families," the police plea added.
