NSU calls for stronger role of pharmacists in health system

North South University (NSU) observed World Pharmacists Day 2025 on Thursday with academic and community engagement programmes organised jointly by its Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the NSU Pharmaceutical Club.
Aligned with this year's International Pharmaceutical Federation slogan, "Think Health, Think Pharmacist", the observance reaffirmed the essential role of pharmacists in strengthening health systems and public well-being.
The programme began with a rally and a formal ceremony attended by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU; Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer and Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-Charge); Professor Dr Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the School of Health Sciences; Syed A B Tahmeed, Director of Marketing and Sales, Synovia Pharma; and Professor Dr Mohammad Hossain Shariare, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Speakers highlighted the role of pharmacists in medication safety, health literacy, preventive care, and sustainable healthcare, calling for their greater integration into policymaking, research, and community health strategies.
The day's agenda also featured interactive student–faculty sessions and public engagement activities. NSU reaffirmed its commitment to producing pharmacy graduates equipped to contribute proactively to national and global health goals.
