North Bengal Model United Nations Season V begins

The North Bengal Model United Nations Season V Conference began on Thursday, bringing together delegates from educational institutions across North Bengal for diplomatic sessions on contemporary global issues.

Organised by the Rajshahi University Model United Nations Association (Rumuna), the conference is being held under the theme "Strengthening Global Unity Through Safeguarding Cultural Heritage, Promoting Intercultural Dialogue, and Advancing Sustainable Peace for Future Generations," according to the press release.

The conference features five committees: the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (Sochum), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (Unaoc), the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and the International Press.

The committees' agendas align with the conference's central theme.

Delegates are discussing issues including the preservation of cultural heritage, intercultural dialogue, human rights, cultural diversity, peacebuilding, and sustainable peace for future generations.

Rumuna President Mukit Alam serves as secretary-general, while General Secretary Pranab Kumar Saha serves as deputy secretary-general.

Under their leadership, the conference is conducting a range of activities.

The conference is giving participating delegates opportunities to develop skills in diplomacy, policy-making, research, communication, public speaking and leadership, while fostering greater understanding and respect for diverse cultures and perspectives.

The organisers said one of the conference's key objectives is to engage young people in strengthening global unity through preserving cultural heritage, promoting intercultural dialogue and advancing sustainable peace.

Through the different committees, delegates are presenting their positions, engaging in constructive debates and proposing solutions to contemporary national and international issues.
