New representative pledges to restore Islami Bank’s standing
The newly appointed representative entrusted with the overall responsibility of the board of directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has said he has started work with renewed focus to re-establish the bank as a symbol of public trust and confidence.
"Our main goal is to restore the bank to its traditional position by protecting depositors' interests, improving service quality and making regular operations more dynamic," Mohammad Zahir Hossain said at a press conference on Monday (15 June).
He said that depositors, alongside shareholders, are among the bank's most important stakeholders under company law, as the bank's operations are carried out on the basis of their deposits.
"Protecting depositors' interests, maintaining their trust and ensuring the highest standard of banking services are our key responsibilities," he said.
"A new journey begins for Islami Bank today. We are determined to restore the bank's reputation, transparency and professionalism. As a centre of trust and expectations for a large number of people in the country, Islami Bank will continue to play an important role in the future," he added.
Mohammad Zahir Hossain said the board of directors would provide the necessary policy guidance to keep the bank's overall activities normal and stable.
He said there would be no interference in the bank's day-to-day operations and transactions would continue as usual.
"Customers have no reason to be worried," he said.
Seeking cooperation from customers, depositors, shareholders, officials, employees and the media, he said collective efforts would help make Islami Bank one of the country's best and most trusted banks once again.
