MTB welcomes Syed Nasim Manzur, Tapan Chowdhury, and Zareen Mahmud Hosein as Board Directors
Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) has announced the election of three distinguished professionals to its Board of Directors: Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur and Mr. Tapan Chowdhury as Directors, and Ms. Zareen Mahmud Hosein as an Independent Director.
Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur is a prominent Bangladeshi industrialist and the Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited, one of the country's leading leather footwear manufacturers and exporters. He is the son of the late Syed Manzur Elahi, a renowned entrepreneur and founding chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC. Apart from Apex Footwear, Mr. Manzur holds leadership roles in several companies, including Chairman of Landmark Footwear Ltd. and Director of Apex Tannery Ltd., Apex Pharma Ltd., and Blue Ocean Footwear Ltd. He is also actively involved in national business and civic initiatives, serving as President of the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), a two-term former President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), and trustee of BRAC University. His affiliations extend to NGOs such as FRIENDSHIP and SPBA, and he participates on various national committees related to entrepreneurship and export promotion. Mr. Manzur holds a B.Sc. in Economics with a focus on Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Tapan Chowdhury was elected as Director representing ASTRAS Limited, succeeding Ms. Anika Chowdhury. A leading industrialist and second son of the late Samson H. Chowdhury, founder of Square Group, he began his career in marketing at Square Pharmaceuticals and rose to become Managing Director in 1995. He also chairs Square Textiles Ltd. Under his leadership, Square Group has diversified into sectors such as healthcare, textiles, toiletries, food and beverages, IT, organic tea plantations, capital market operations, and satellite TV broadcasting. Mr. Chowdhury's public service includes serving as Adviser (Minister) in the 2007 Caretaker Government overseeing several ministries. He has held key roles including President of MCCI, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC), and YMCA Bangladesh. Recognised for his philanthropic efforts in education and healthcare, he is among the country's highest individual taxpayers. Mr. Chowdhury is a graduate of the University of Dhaka and has undertaken advanced business and strategic training in the UK, Switzerland, and Belgium.
Ms. Zareen Mahmud Hosein brings over 20 years of experience in financial management and leadership. She is the Founding Partner of Snehasish Mahmud & Co., Chartered Accountants, and founder of HerStory Foundation and CholPori, a blended learning platform. She has also edited volumes of HerStories: Adventures of SuperGirls, showcasing homegrown female role models. Ms. Hosein began her career at the New York City Mayor's Budget Office and worked with KPMG LLP in New York, qualifying as a Certified Public Accountant before returning to Bangladesh to work at ACNABIN Chartered Accountants and eventually establishing her own practice. She serves on the boards of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), Shasha Denims Limited, Bangladesh Mahila Samity, and Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) Bangladesh. She has previously served on boards including the Aga Khan Foundation Bangladesh and Sajida Foundation and was President of EO Bangladesh. Ms. Hosein holds a BA from Smith College and an MPA from New York University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh and an Acumen Fellow.
