Minister calls for joint efforts to improve primary education
Dr AHM Ehsanul Haque Milon, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister, urged teachers to treat students as their own children and instill moral values in them.
"Teachers should educate students as if they were their own children and help them grow up with moral values," Dr AHM Ehsanul Haque Milon said, adding that the prime minister had emphasised family and religious values.
The minister made the remarks at a meeting to exchange views on improving primary education at the PTI auditorium in Mirpur on Tuesday, 21 July, according to a press release.

He said the government was working earnestly to develop primary education and called on teachers, guardians and education administrators to work together toward that goal.
He also emphasised the need for advanced training to improve teachers' skills.
Referring to challenges facing the younger generation, Dr AHM Ehsanul Haque Milon said some young people were abandoning their studies and becoming addicted to mobile phones and drugs.
"The prime minister is therefore placing importance on sports alongside education. Young people need to be brought back through joyful learning and sporting activities," Dr AHM Ehsanul Haque Milon said.
The government was preparing to organise the "Prime Minister's Gold Cup Football Competition" nationwide, with the Prime Minister scheduled to inaugurate it in Chattogram on 9 August, he added.
The minister said the government was also preparing to provide free school uniforms to encourage children to attend school and to implement initiatives such as midday meals.
"Bangladesh's future cannot be built without the development of the younger generation. We are working towards that goal," Dr AHM Ehsanul Haque Milon said.
Bobby Hajjaj, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, attended the meeting as a special guest.
"The responsibilities of primary education officials will increase alongside their facilities and benefits. Private schools will also come under their supervision in the coming days," Bobby Hajjaj said.
Officials involved in primary education highlighted various problems facing primary schools at the meeting.
Shahina Ferdousi, Director General of the Department of Primary Education, conducted the programme, while Md Sakhawat Hossain, Secretary of Primary and Mass Education, presided over it.
