Majority of government allowance recipients opt for Nagad in FY26
Beneficiaries across the country have continued to choose Nagad, the digital financial service of Bangladesh Postal Department, to receive various government allowances for the first instalment of the 2025–26 fiscal year — reflecting growing public trust in the platform's reliability and accessibility.
Nagad has disbursed around Tk1,650 crore to more than 78 lakh beneficiaries under different social safety net programmes of the Department of Social Services and the Mother and Child Benefit Programme of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Although the disbursement window is open to all mobile financial service (MFS) operators, the majority of recipients in all 64 districts have opted for Nagad for its secure and convenient services.
Over 75 lakh beneficiaries received their social safety net allowances — totalling about Tk1,624 crore — directly in their Nagad wallets. Recipients include the elderly, widows, marginalised people, persons with disabilities, members of the Bede community, and third-gender individuals. Allowances comprise monthly payments of Tk900 for persons with disabilities, Tk650 for the elderly, and Tk650 for widows and deserted women.
Under the Mother and Child Benefit Programme, Nagad also disbursed maternity allowances to more than 3 lakh beneficiaries, each receiving Tk850 per month for 36 months.
"It is a matter of great pride for us that millions of citizens across all 64 districts have chosen Nagad to receive their government allowances," said Nagad Administrator Md Motasem Billah. "This trust inspires us to keep improving our digital infrastructure so that every beneficiary, even in the most remote area, can access their entitlements quickly, securely, and without intermediaries."
In the previous fiscal year, the government disbursed over Tk9,000 crore in social safety net allowances through Nagad. Building on that success, this year's disbursement further strengthens confidence in digital payment systems as a key driver of efficient service delivery.
Through digitalisation, beneficiaries now receive allowances directly to their mobile wallets, reducing time, costs, and potential leakages. As a government partner in expanding digital transactions, Nagad continues to play a vital role in promoting financial inclusion and innovation across Bangladesh.
