Karmasangsthan Bank opens 289th branch in Munshiganj
Karmasangsthan Bank inaugurated its 289th branch in Tongibari, Munshiganj today.
Chaired by the Chairman of Karmasangsthan Bank and former AFM Secretary, Motiur Rahman, the inauguration ceremony was held at the Institute of Marine Technology's conference hall in Tongibari. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar attended the event as the chief guest.
Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-2 Abdus Salam Azad attended the programme as the inaugurator, while Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Munshi Alauddin Al Azad and Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Nazma Mobarek were present as special guests. At the beginning of the ceremony, Managing Director Arun Kumar Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech, briefing the guests on the bank's overall activities.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest, Sattar, noted that Karmasangsthan Bank maintains a relatively strong position in the banking sector. He urged the bank to sustain this performance and create more job opportunities through financial inclusion.
In his speech, lawmaker Azad highlighted Tongibari as a promising area, expressing optimism that the bank's financial support and training programmes in agriculture, fisheries, and small businesses would generate new employment. Financial Institutions Division Secretary Mobarek stated that banking is not merely a business, adding that the new branch opens doors for the unemployed in Tongibari. She also highlighted that the bank is actively working to create employment for women despite a general decline in female labour force participation.
Bank Chairman Rahman called upon local youth, women entrepreneurs, and small businessmen to pursue self-employment by leveraging the new branch's financial assistance, describing the inauguration as a milestone for the bank.
The event was also attended by bank board member and former additional secretary Md Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Deputy Managing Director Meher Sultana, and general managers Mahmuda Yasmin, Md Shafiqul Islam Miah, and Md Amirul Islam, alongside other senior bank officials and local journalists. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guest and other dignitaries handed over loan cheques to local entrepreneurs.
