JICA overseas training inspires teachers in Bangladesh visit

A group of Japanese teachers and educators visited various educational institutions in Bangladesh to observe its education sector, socio-economic environment, and international cooperation in a developing nation.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) hosted Overseas Training for Teachers in Bangladesh from August 5 to 13. The delegation observed government, international, and NGO-run schools, as well as the University of Dhaka, the Directorate of Primary Education, the Primary Teachers' Training Institute, and Kumon.
The visit made a strong impression. "The experience inspired us, and we hope to design classes that help our students in Japan appreciate cultural diversity," one teacher said. Several participants expressed interest in strengthening Japan–Bangladesh relations through education and exchange programmes.
Participants will utilise the knowledge gained to develop lessons and teaching materials for their schools and incorporate them into follow-up reports.
Launched 40 years ago, Overseas Training for Teachers is a year-long programme for Japanese teachers interested in development education and international understanding. It includes pre-departure training in Japan, 1–2 weeks in a developing country, and post-departure training.
Through this initiative, JICA promotes teachers as key contributors to development education and global awareness. By linking classroom practice with global realities, the programme aims to nurture globally conscious citizens in Japan.
