Japan Embassy opens exhibition featuring firoz mahmud’s new works
The Embassy of Japan has announced that the exhibition 'Multi-Layered Legacies' by internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Firoz Mahmud is now open to visitors, attracting diplomats, art enthusiasts, and members of the cultural community.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Ambassador SAIDA Shinich, who attended as Chief Guest and praised Mahmud's ability to connect global narratives through a rich visual language.
Organised in collaboration with Paper Rhyme Advertising Limited, the event also marks the agency's 20th anniversary and its long-standing partnership with the artist. The showcase features Mahmud's multidisciplinary practice, exploring history, identity, and contemporary culture.
A New York–based artist, Mahmud has participated in major international platforms, including the Bangkok Art Biennale, Congo Biennale, Lahore Biennial, Dhaka Art Summit, Setouchi Triennale, Aichi Triennial, Sharjah Biennale, Cairo Biennale, Echigo-Tsumari Triennial, and the Asian Biennale. He has received honours from the Asian Art Council, COAL Prize (nomination), Queens Council on the Arts, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize.
He is also a recipient of the Dilnasheen Khanom Gold Medal and the Shilpacharya Zainul Gold Medal from the University of Dhaka, as well as the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants in Canada. Mahmud completed his academic training at the University of Dhaka, Tama Art University, and Tokyo University of the Arts, and served as a Postgraduate Scholar at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He has also collaborated with renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
Mahmud is represented by Ota Fine Arts (Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore). Paper Rhyme Advertising has supported his work for over two decades, collecting his pieces and collaborating on international exhibitions.
