IUBAT tops Bangladesh in UI GreenMetric ranking for second consecutive year
The International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has ranked first among Bangladeshi universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 for the second consecutive year, securing 113th place in Asia and 197th globally.
The results were announced on Thursday (24 September) at an international ceremony hosted by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University in Baku, Azerbaijan, according to the press release.
The 17th edition of the rankings assessed 2,016 universities and higher education institutions from 110 countries, making it the largest edition of the UI GreenMetric rankings to date.

The official 2026 ranking gives IUBAT a total score of 8,272.5, placing it first in Bangladesh, 113th in Asia and 197th worldwide.
IUBAT also ranked first among Bangladeshi universities in the 2025 edition of UI GreenMetric, placing 168th globally and 95th in Asia.
Universitas Indonesia established the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in 2010 to assess sustainability performance and environmentally responsible practices at higher education institutions worldwide.
The 2026 assessment covers seven areas: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education and Research, and Governance and Digitalisation.
Governance and Digitalisation was introduced as a seventh assessment category for the 2026 rankings, expanding the framework beyond the six categories used previously.
Among Bangladeshi institutions, Daffodil International University ranked second nationally and 204th globally, followed by BRAC University in third place at 412th globally.
World University of Bangladesh (WUB) ranked fourth in Bangladesh and 492nd globally, while Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) placed fifth nationally and 713th globally.
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) ranked sixth in Bangladesh at 1,394th globally, while State University of Bangladesh placed seventh nationally and 1,533rd globally.
Commenting on the achievement, IUBAT Treasurer Professor Selina Nargis said, "This recognition is the result of the long-standing collective efforts of our students, faculty and staff."
"We will continue moving forward with our commitment to building a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus," she added.
