IUBAT marks 35 years of academic excellence
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, the country's first non-government university, has stepped into its 35th year of academic excellence.
The university will celebrate its 35th anniversary today, 16 January 2026, marking more than three decades of pioneering contributions to private higher education in Bangladesh. Over the years, IUBAT has evolved not only as an academic institution but also as a benchmark for quality, accessibility and innovation in higher education.
IUBAT was established in 1991 by renowned educationist Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan, former Director of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka. The founding vision was to make international-standard higher education accessible to students from all segments of society and to produce one professional graduate from each village of Bangladesh to support national development. The university has made significant progress in realising this vision.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Zuber Alim, Chairman of the IUBAT Board of Trustees, and Prof Dr Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, extended their greetings and congratulations to students, faculty members, officers, staff, alumni and well-wishers.
Located on a nearly 6.5-acre green campus in Uttara, Dhaka, IUBAT is regarded as one of the leading private universities in the country. Its well-planned layout, open spaces and modern infrastructure provide a student-friendly learning environment that supports academic excellence and personal development.
As the first private university in Bangladesh, IUBAT introduced BBA and hotel management programmes and pioneered private-sector education in agriculture, nursing and mechanical engineering. These initiatives opened new pathways in higher education and contributed to producing skilled professionals to meet the country's growing demands across sectors.
Currently, the university operates six faculties comprising 14 academic departments, with thousands of students from Bangladesh and abroad enrolled in various programmes. Through modern curricula, experienced faculty and a strong emphasis on practical and industry-oriented learning, IUBAT graduates have been serving national and international organisations for more than three decades.
In research and global rankings, IUBAT has maintained a consistent position. In 2025, the university ranked fifth among private universities in Bangladesh in terms of research output. Its inclusion in internationally recognised rankings such as QS and Times Higher Education further reflects its contribution to the country's higher education sector.
The university also demonstrates a strong commitment to social responsibility. To ensure that meritorious students are not deprived of higher education due to financial constraints, IUBAT offers scholarships of up to 100 percent based on SSC, HSC or equivalent examination results. Free transportation facilities are also provided to students to enhance accessibility.
As IUBAT celebrates 35 years of excellence, the university stands as an example of how visionary leadership, quality education and social responsibility can together shape the future of a nation. With renewed commitment, IUBAT looks ahead to reaching greater heights and continuing its role in building a skilled, ethical and globally competitive generation for Bangladesh.
