IUB officially launches Rover Scout Group
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has formally launched the IUB Rover Scout Group at a programme held at the DMK Lecture Gallery on 27 November 2025, attended by 120 participants.
The event was organised by the Division of Student Activities (DoSA).
The initiative aims to provide students with opportunities for leadership development and community service. The day began with the opening of the IUB Rover Den and a ceremonial tree planting near Gate 5. The ceremony was led by Vice-Chancellor Professor M Tamim, who also serves as President of the IUB Rover Scout Group.
Professor Tamim highlighted how Rover Scouting aligns with IUB's mission to nurture responsible and service-oriented graduates, emphasising its value in developing practical leadership skills. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Daniel W Lund, Vice-President of the IUB Rover Scout Group, discussed the relevance of scouting values within the university's academic environment.
Dr Mohammad Akkas Ali Akash, Secretary of Bangladesh Scouts (Dhaka District Rover); Professor Dr Maniruzzaman Khandakar, Leader Trainer and former Dean at Jagannath University; Muhammad Omar Ali, Leader Trainer and Commissioner, Dhaka District Rover; and Atif M Safi, Head of DoSA, also addressed the event.
The programme featured a documentary screening and the official unveiling of the IUB Rover Scout Group scarf. This was followed by cultural performances from the rovers, before the event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Md Fazle Rabby, Secretary and Rover Scout Leader of IUB, and Nur Mohammad Farhad, Rover Scout Leader.
The inauguration established the operational framework for the newly formed group, laying the foundation for future activities centred on leadership, community service, and scouting principles.
