ISD hosts student-led collective iftar with community partners

International School Dhaka (ISD) hosted its annual student-led Iftar programme on March 13.
This initiative was planned by ISD students across different service groups and aimed to create a meaningful experience for underprivileged children through various interactive activities and a shared Iftar meal.
One hundred and seventy students from Solmaid, Families for Children (FFC), Dreams in Action' (JAAGO foundation), LEF for Life, Rise and shine (Abinta Kabir Foundation), and ISD attended the program organised under the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme's Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Middle Years Programme's Service as Action. The event featured engaging activities such as painting, origami, bracelet-making, storytelling, reading, and Eid card designing, alongside fun games such as Pictionary, charades, and musical chairs. It also included a movie screening and a dedicated bonding session to foster a warm and inclusive learning environment.
ISD students raised funds by selling stationery, stickers, and jewellery to support the event. This allowed them to purchase sports equipment, books, and school supplies for donation to children of underserved communities.
As a part of ISD's commitment to supporting community development through ethical action, this initiative was closely tied to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). It was aligned with the school's Grade 8 summative project on 'Human Dignity.'
In addition to the Iftar gathering at ISD, the 'Diamonds in the Rough' (DITR) service group will organise a special visit to the Bashundhara Children's Group, where ISD students engage with children through mentorship and interactive sessions. This initiative is aimed to bridge educational gaps, promote inclusivity, and provide a platform for confidence-building and academic growth.
Also, ISD's Void Project continued its mission to enhance educational and recreational facilities in underserved areas. This year, the school built basketball and cricket pitches to promote teamwork, discipline, and physical well-being through sports activities among children in the Solmaid community. Students and faculty from ISD donated educational materials to the children, including books and stationery, so they could access the necessary resources to pursue their academic journey.
The activities culminated with students and guests gathering in the ISD cafeteria for Iftar to share a meal in the spirit of togetherness. This collective Iftar was meant to uphold ISD's commitment to instilling social responsibility and ethical leadership among students. ISD believes in ensuring a learning environment where students can learn the value of empathy and contribute to building a more equitable society.
