IECC presents marketing golden jubilee debate festival concludes

The eagerly awaited finale of the 'IECC Presents Marketing Debating Festival' was held on December 10, 2024, at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, located on the 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Social Sciences Building at the University of Dhaka. In the final, two skilled teams from FBS, "AISDC Agun" and "Sat Arbitrage," faced off in a contest for victory.

The Department of Marketing at the University of Dhaka organised the debating festival following the golden jubilee of the Marketing Department. The event received a tremendous response, with 16 teams participating from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka.

After three rounds of competition, the top four teams advanced to the semi-final on December 6, and two teams made it to the final. The audience was treated to an engaging debate between the finalists on December 10. Based on the preliminary rounds, Nadim Abrar Hossain and Tirtha Dey were announced as tournament debaters.

The motion presented was "This House would prioritise economic development over climate change policies in developing countries." The government team was Team AISDC Agun. The opposing team was SAT Arbitrage. The judges had to select one team as the winner, and the winner was SAT Arbitrage. The team consisted of Sadman Hosen, Mashrafi Ibn Salam Taskin and Mid. Aminul Islam. The Runner-up team members included Tahmida Maliha, Tirtha Dey, and Mohammad Nasim.

The panel of honourable judges for the final round included Md. Tanvir Alam Himel, Assistant Professor of the Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka; Monoar Alim Tonmoy, a distinguished alumnus of the Marketing Department, a successful debater, and the former President of the Mohsin Hall Debating Club; Roman Uddin, a former vice president of the Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and a renowned debater during his era; and Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, a prominent figure in Bangla debate and the current vice president of the Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS).

We feel honoured to have such accomplished individuals as judges for this event. Their smooth and insightful evaluation enhanced the quality of the debate program.

Prominent figures from the Marketing Department graced the programme. Ashraful Islam Chowdhury, Professor of the Department of Marketing, was invited as the event's Chief Guest. Renowned figures such as Dr. Serajul Hoque, Professor of the Department of Marketing, and Dr. Razia Begum (Professor, LPR) were present as special guests.
