Algerian Embassy celebrates 63rd Independence Day

The Embassy of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Dhaka commemorated the 63rd Anniversary of its National Independence Day on Friday under the theme "Our Algeria… The Legacy of the Martyrs and the Glory of the Loyal."
The event began with a ceremonial flag-hoisting by Algerian Ambassador H.E. Dr. Abdelouahab SAIDANI, in the presence of diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, academics, and cultural delegates.
The reception was graced by H.E. Lt. Gen. (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home and Agriculture, as Chief Guest, and Mr. B.M. Jamal Hossain, Director General (Africa), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Special Guest.
In his address, Ambassador SAIDANI paid tribute to Algeria's 1.5 million martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the 1954–1962 Liberation War. "Our independence was won through sacrifice and resilience," he said. "We honour that legacy and look forward to building even stronger ties with friendly nations like Bangladesh."
He highlighted the potential for enhanced bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, health, and diplomacy.
Lt. Gen. (Retd) Chowdhury echoed these sentiments, emphasising opportunities for collaboration in fertiliser trade, dryland farming, and technology transfer. "Let this celebration be a platform for new partnerships," he added.
DG (Africa) B.M. Jamal Hossain reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to expanding cooperation with Algeria and pledged full support to deepening bilateral ties.
Mr. Mohd. Nurul Mostofa, President of the Algeria–Bangladesh Business Forum, also spoke, calling for greater economic connectivity.
Two research papers were presented during the ceremony. Mr. Sakhwat Khan of Bangladesh Medical University spoke on "Strategic Health Diplomacy and Educational Exchange between Bangladesh and Algeria," while Ms. Farian Tahrim, Assistant Professor at Noakhali Science and Technology University, presented her study on "Decolonisation and Development: Long-Run Impacts of Algerian Independence on Economic Growth."
