Strait of Hormuz crisis deepens as Iran issues new ultimatum to Washington
Iran says the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States meets Tehran's demands. Iran's top negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has called for oil sanctions to be lifted, Iranian assets to be released, the blockade of Iranian ports to end, and all US military operations and threats against Iran to stop.
The move follows the collapse of the June 17 interim agreement between Iran and the US. With diplomacy now stalled, Tehran says it has shifted to a "fully offensive" posture as the Strait of Hormuz standoff deepens.
