Former CEC Dr A T M Shamsul Huda passes away
Dr A T M Shamsul Huda, renowned former Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh, former Secretary to the Government, respected public administrator, and former Chairman of the Gulshan Society, passed away this morning in the United States. (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
Dr Huda was a distinguished figure in Bangladesh's political and administrative history. Throughout his long and illustrious career, he upheld integrity, competence, and fairness, setting a remarkable example in public service. His tenure as Chief Election Commissioner is primarily remembered for overseeing a landmark national election, which strengthened public confidence in the electoral process and established vital precedents for transparency and institutional independence.
As Chairman of the Gulshan Society, Dr Huda made outstanding contributions to the welfare of Gulshan residents. Under his leadership, numerous development projects were implemented to improve civic safety, urban aesthetics, and overall quality of life in the neighbourhood—initiatives that continue to benefit the community to this day.
Dr Huda was a visionary and courageous leader who consistently demonstrated wisdom and moral clarity in times of national challenge. His commitment to ethical governance, social harmony, and public interest earned him widespread respect across all segments of society.
To the members of the Gulshan Society, he was a guardian-like presence. To the nation, he was an honest and principled civil servant whose legacy will endure.
