IDCOL supports icddr,b's climate health research

IDCOL (Infrastructure Development Company Limited) has demonstrated its commitment to addressing health risks arising from climate change in Bangladesh by supporting icddr,b, a renowned health research institute.
The contribution, made through IDCOL's Climate Resilience Fund (CRF) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to support the study and mitigation of the health impacts of climate change.
In a cheque handover ceremony at ICDDRb's Mohakhali premises, Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL, presented the donation to Dr. Tahmeed Ahmed, Executive Director of ICDDRb, with senior officials from both organisations in attendance.
The growing impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, saline intrusion, and unpredictable weather patterns, are significantly affecting public health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women, children, and those living in low-income or coastal areas. icddr,b's research on these issues, particularly in the coastal region of Chakaria, has highlighted risks like miscarriages due to elevated temperatures, increased cases of diarrhoea and respiratory illnesses, and kidney-related issues linked to heat and salinity.
This collaboration marks a crucial step in integrating financial support with public health research, enhancing Bangladesh's ability to combat the long-term effects of climate change.
