HSBC honours Ulkasemi for advancing Bangladesh’s high-tech exports
Ulkasemi has won the HSBC Export Excellence Awards 2025 in the category of Export Excellence in Non-Traditional and Emerging Sectors (Services), recognising its leadership in taking Bangladesh's semiconductor capabilities to global markets.
The awards ceremony was held on 7 December, 2025 in Dhaka. Winners were selected on the basis of annual export contribution, economic impact, diversity, responsible and sustainable practices, governance standards and regulatory compliance.
The recognition highlights Ulkasemi's growing contribution as a high-tech exporter, delivering advanced semiconductor design services to clients worldwide. As one of only 32 global partners of the TSMC Design Center Alliance, the company continues to strengthen Bangladesh's position in the global semiconductor value chain.
In a statement, CEO and President Mohammed Enayetur Rahman said, "This award is a meaningful acknowledgment of Bangladesh's growing role in the global semiconductor sector. It strengthens our resolve to push even further. More than 550 engineers are now working across our four global design centres, and we plan to employ 5,000 engineers by 2030. As part of that commitment, we are launching the VLSI Training Institute, which will be a long-term investment in creating world-class semiconductor engineers and building a deep-tech talent pipeline for the future. Our mission is clear: accelerate Bangladesh's presence in the global value chain and contribute to shaping a high-tech economy."
Supported by the Ministry of Commerce, the British High Commission Dhaka and KPMG Advisory Services Limited, the HSBC Export Excellence Awards underscore the importance of deep-tech services in diversifying Bangladesh's export portfolio and strengthening competitiveness in emerging global industries.
Ulkasemi aims to expand its engineering capacity and help build a multi-billion-dollar semiconductor sector in Bangladesh by 2030.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Bashir Uddin, adviser to the Ministry of Commerce, as chief guest; British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke as special guest; and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur as guest of honour. HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman, along with award winners, customers, regulators, media and other stakeholders, also attended. The event featured a special session on "Sustaining High Performance" by Jake Lovelock, performance and wellbeing psychologist at Cognacity.
