Dutch-Bangla Bank joins Tk2,000cr Bangladesh Bank refinance schemes
Dutch-Bangla Bank has signed two participation agreements with the Sustainable Finance Department of Bangladesh Bank to provide low-cost financing to eligible customers under refinance schemes for green factory buildings, green industries and the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.
The agreements cover the "Refinance Scheme for Green Factory Building and Green Industry" and the "Refinance Scheme for the Development of ICT Sector", each with a revolving fund of Tk1,000 crore, according to the press release.
Bangladesh Bank Sustainable Finance Department Director AKM Nurunnabi and Dutch-Bangla Bank Managing Director and CEO Md Ahteshamul Haque Khan signed the agreements on behalf of their respective organisations.
Other senior officials from Bangladesh Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank were also present at the signing ceremony.
The Refinance Scheme for Green Factory Building and Green Industry aims to encourage the construction of green factories and green buildings and promote environmentally sustainable industrial development.
The scheme is intended to support the development of green infrastructure, which the bank said could help strengthen export competitiveness by attracting international buyers while reducing environmental pollution.
A revolving fund of Tk1,000 crore has been allocated to the scheme.
Under the scheme, an individual eligible borrower can receive a maximum loan of Tk100 crore at an interest rate of 5%.
The Refinance Scheme for the Development of the ICT Sector aims to support entrepreneurs in the ICT sector and related subsectors that receive priority under the government's development plans.
The scheme also prioritises products and services produced in Bangladesh hi-tech parks and software technology parks, as well as women entrepreneurs operating in the ICT sector.
The ICT refinance scheme has been allocated a revolving fund of Tk1,000 crore.
Under the scheme, an individual eligible borrower can receive a maximum loan of Tk50 crore at an interest rate of 4%.
Through its participation in the two schemes, Dutch-Bangla Bank will be able to extend refinance facilities to eligible customers in the green industry and ICT sectors in line with Bangladesh Bank's applicable guidelines and eligibility criteria.
