Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award ceremony honours 232 students
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation Bangladesh held its Gold Award Ceremony on 19 January at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, honouring 232 students from 13 educational institutions for their achievements.
The award recipients represented institutions including ABC International School, Bangladesh International Tutorial, CIDER International School, Grow Your Reader Foundation, Independent University Bangladesh, International School Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, Maple Leaf International School, Sir John Wilson School, Summerfield International School, University of Chittagong, and University of Dhaka.
Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, hosted the ceremony. In her address, she said the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award reflects the strong ties between the UK and Bangladesh, adding that the ceremony celebrates the potential and achievements of young people.
Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, said the programme helps young people overcome fear and builds confidence, capability, and social responsibility.
Members of the Board of Trustees were present at the event, including Mirza Salman Ispahani, Honorary Secretary; Talita Choudhury, Treasurer; and Runa Khan, Honorary Member of the Foundation.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mirza Salman Ispahani, who expressed appreciation to the British High Commissioner, heads of institutions, award coordinators, and award leaders for their continued support.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a global non-formal education framework that encourages young people to develop skills, engage in physical activity, volunteer in their communities, and undertake adventurous journeys. The Gold Award, the highest level of the programme, requires sustained commitment across volunteering, physical activity, skills development, an adventurous journey, and a residential project.
