DSCC Administrator urges staff honesty, seeks citizens’ support for cleaner Dhaka
Freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam has assumed charge as the newly appointed administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today.
According to a government notification issued on 22 February, Salam was appointed full-time administrator of DSCC under Section 25A(1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2024, until further orders. Under Section 25A(3), he will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor.
Earlier today, Salam submitted his joining letter to Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and later met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, according to officials.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed steps to improve city cleanliness, tackle mosquito infestation and develop Dhaka as an environment-friendly "green city", and asked for an action plan, officials said. Salam also met Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and discussed issues related to law and order in the city, they added.
Salam later visited Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and placed a wreath at the grave of late president Ziaur Rahman, according to officials. He also offered prayers for the wellbeing of Khaleda Zia.
After arriving at the DSCC city hall in the afternoon, Salam was received by senior officials, including the chief executive officer and secretary, with floral greetings.
Addressing officials and employees, Salam said his main task would be to earn the trust of city residents through improved services and urged staff to carry out duties with honesty and dedication. He also called for citizens' participation and awareness to build a cleaner city and strengthen mosquito control efforts.
