DoE, Unido launch PlasticPath website, application
The PlasticPath website and mobile application have been launched to support sustainable plastics management and marine litter prevention in Bangladesh.
The platform was developed under the Department of Environment (DoE) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido)-supported project titled "Integrated Approach towards Sustainable Plastics Use and Marine Litter Prevention in Bangladesh".
The launch event was held at the Department of Environment in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026.
Mohammad Rayhan Kawsar, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), inaugurated the event as chief guest.
The programme was chaired by Dr Md Lutfor Rahman, Director General of the Department of Environment.
Representatives from the government, private sector, academia, development partners, civil society organisations, the recycling sector and the media attended the event.
PlasticPath has been developed as a national knowledge, engagement and action platform to support sustainable plastics management in Bangladesh.
The platform provides access to policies, research, technical guidelines, educational resources and stakeholder networks, while its mobile application promotes consumer awareness, responsible consumption and public participation.
A key feature of the platform is the digital integration of Form 1 and Form 2 under the Solid Waste Management Rules 2021, supporting more efficient reporting, information management and coordination.
The platform has also been integrated with the official website of the Department of Environment to ensure wider accessibility and long-term institutional ownership.
During the event, Ramisa Rahman, National Expert (Communications), Unido Bangladesh, presented the development journey of PlasticPath and demonstrated the website and mobile application.
Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, National Project Director, Department of Environment, presented the platform's digital reporting features and demonstrated the integration of Form 1 and Form 2.
Speaking at the event, Mohammad Rayhan Kawsar emphasised the importance of coordination, transparency and accountability in addressing plastic pollution.
He also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration and data-driven approaches to waste management.
PlasticPath is expected to strengthen digital environmental governance in Bangladesh, organisers said.
For government institutions, the platform offers scope for improved reporting, monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.
For citizens, it will serve as a source of information, learning and engagement, helping users better understand plastic consumption, explore sustainable alternatives and participate in environmental initiatives.
The initiative is part of the DoE-Unido-supported project "Integrated Approach towards Sustainable Plastics Use and Marine Litter Prevention in Bangladesh", implemented by the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, with financial support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka.
