Desh general insurance settles max group’s cargo losses
Desh General Insurance Company Limited has settled two marine cargo insurance claims for Max Group, amounting to Tk1.63 million, following losses caused by a fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The claims arose from a fire that broke out on 18 October 2025 at the airport's cargo village, damaging insured consignments of Max Group. The two marine cargo claims amounted to Tk626,076 and Tk1,008,200 respectively, totalling Tk1,634,276.
Desh General Insurance said it initiated the claim settlement process immediately after the claims were lodged and completed payment upon receipt of all required documents and survey reports.
Emphasising customer interest as its top priority, the company said it has been regularly settling insurance claims in a timely manner. From January to December 2025, Desh General Insurance paid approximately Tk18.16 million in claims across various categories.
The settled claims include fire, motor, marine, and other non-life insurance segments. The company said timely and transparent claim settlement has further strengthened customer confidence and trust.
On 1 February 2026, Chief Executive Officer of Desh General Insurance Company Limited, Md Hamidi Khan, formally handed over the cheques for the two marine cargo claims to Md Mahmud Hossain, Deputy General Manager (Corporate Finance) of Max Group.
Senior officials present at the event included Md Ziaul Haque, Divisional Head of Claims and Reinsurance at Desh General Insurance; and from Max Group: Chief Financial Officer Md Shahidul Islam Khan, Deputy General Manager (Technical) Khaled Bin Hossain, and Assistant Manager Engineer Rahat Ahmed Ruman.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Md Hamidi Khan said: "Our primary commitment is to settle clients' claims swiftly and fairly. We continue to work with the highest level of integrity and professionalism to strengthen public confidence in the insurance sector."
The company expressed optimism that it will continue to play an active role in ensuring sustainable growth of Bangladesh's insurance sector by delivering customer-focused insurance services.
