Daffodil International University to host ICPC-2024 Asia Regional Dhaka Site

Daffodil International University (DIU) will host the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Regional Dhaka Site 2024 on 7 December at the Shadhinota Sommelon Kendra in Daffodil Smart City, Savar, Dhaka. The announcement was made at a press conference on 24 November at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

Professor Dr Syed Akhter Hossain, Regional Contest Director and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at DIU, detailed the event's features. The press conference was presided over by DIU Registrar Dr Nadir Bin Ali and attended by representatives from Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), and DIU faculty members.

ICPC, organised by the ICPC Foundation, is the world's largest programming competition, engaging over 50,000 students annually from 3,000 universities. The Dhaka Regional 2024, the largest onsite competition globally, features 308 teams selected from 2,489 teams across 148 institutions through preliminary rounds.

The contest will run non-stop from 8 am to 9 pm. The top ten teams will receive cash prizes, certificates, and trophies, with the champion earning a direct invitation to the 2025 World Finals. Other winners will qualify for the Asia West Finals alongside teams from India, Pakistan, Iran, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. A Junior Competitive Programming Contest will also be held to encourage school-level participation.

Platinum sponsor Dutch-Bangla Bank, technical partner Bangladesh Computer Council, and hardware support partner Daffodil Computers Limited are key contributors to the event's success.

Notable additions include a micro-credential programme offering certifications in AWS, Oracle, and competitive programming, a large-scale IT job fair featuring top companies, live scoreboards, and tech talk sessions.

DIU's hosting of ICPC-2024 aims to be a milestone event, fostering talent development and strengthening Bangladesh's IT sector.
