Crowdfunding drive helps CGB expand Eid food support in Belabo
Cholo Gori Belabo (CGB), a voluntary social organisation, will distribute Eid food packages to 750 underprivileged families in Belabo upazila ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The organisation raised approximately Tk4.6 lakh through a 26-day crowdfunding campaign on social media, with support from well-wishers both locally and overseas.
Since its founding in 2020, CGB has organised annual food assistance programmes for disadvantaged families during Ramadan and ahead of Eid. This year, the organisation aims to reach 750 families across 72 wards in Belabo upazila, up from 504 families last year.
Each Eid food package, valued at approximately Tk510, will contain essential food and household items, including polao rice, lentils, soybean oil, onions, salt, vermicelli, sugar, powdered milk, meat spices, and bathing soap.
Over the years, the organisation has implemented a range of social and humanitarian initiatives, including tree plantation drives, public awareness campaigns during the Covid-19 pandemic, financial aid for underprivileged patients, winter clothing distributions, and reception programmes for top-performing students in public examinations.
CGB has also organised sports and cultural competitions, such as cricket tournaments aimed at encouraging youth to avoid drug abuse. The organisation has distributed inhalers to underprivileged asthma patients during winter and introduced the CGB Foundation Scholarship Examination for students of classes 8 and 9 in secondary schools across Belabo upazila.
During the 2024 floods, CGB established an emergency fund and provided food assistance to affected families in the region.
A CGB volunteer expressed gratitude to all donors and volunteers whose support made these initiatives possible. The organisation appealed for continued cooperation from the people of Belabo upazila to sustain future humanitarian efforts.
CGB extended advance Eid greetings and expressed hope for stronger community bonds, mutual respect, and a peaceful, prosperous life for all residents, regardless of faith or background.
