Chattogram regional round of AI Olympiad held at CIU
The Chattogram regional round of the 3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2026 drew enthusiastic participation from students across the division. Chittagong Independent University hosted the event on Thursday.
Organised by the Bangladesh Open Source Network, the competition attracted students from a range of educational institutions. Participants came from Chattogram and its surrounding districts.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in programming, mathematical reasoning, and various artificial intelligence challenges.
Specifically, participants demonstrated their skills in two categories: AI Quiz and AI Coding Challenge.
Professor Dr Asif Iqbal, Dean of Science and Engineering at CIU, visited the venue.
CIU students Abdullah Al Nayeem and Samah Binte Firoz led an AI and machine learning workshop for quiz participants.
At the end of the competitions, ten students were named winners in the AI Quiz category, while six were recognised in the AI Coding Challenge.
The winners of the coding challenge were students from Chittagong Cantonment Public College: Akeed Iqbal Haque, Arian Abrar Chowdhury, and Tanushree Saha. Bangladesh Elementary School's Tasdid Ahmed Chowdhury, Presidency International School's Sayan Ahmed Khan, and Government Haji Asmat College's Md Imtiaz Hossain were also winners.
Quiz category winners included Cantonment English School and College's Supratik Nath, Mostanir Chowdhury Rakin, Saad Ibne Hossain, Ibrahim Bin Hossain, Syed Mohammad Rafan and Afnan Enam Ayan. CMP School and College's Zuhair Ferdous Hasan, Bangladesh Elementary School's Towasin Mostofa, and Chittagong Grammar School's Taisir Islam Adian were also among the winners.
Anjuman Banu Lima, Registrar, CIU, served as the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
Professor Dr Asif Iqbal attended as a special guest. Dr Rubel Sen Gupta, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was also a special guest.
Guests presented medals and certificates to the winners. They urged students to further develop their AI skills to help build a technology-driven Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, an online e-Olympiad was also held on the same day for students from the Rajshahi and Khulna regions.
For both events, results will be published soon on the Olympiad website, bdaio.org.
Looking ahead, regional winners will have the opportunity to participate in the national AI Olympiad, scheduled for 16 May in Dhaka.
