BUTEX career fair connects students with textile industry
The ITET–BUTEX Career Fair 2026, presented by Centro Tex Limited, brought together leading textile and apparel companies with aspiring graduates at the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) in Dhaka on 23 April.
Organised by the BUTEX Career Club and supported by the Institute of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET), the daylong event was held at the university's central field.
Centro Tex Limited served as title sponsor, with Swiss Chroma Bangladesh Limited and Fashion Power Group as platinum sponsors. Aman Group was the gold sponsor, while Babylon Group and MM Knitwear Limited were silver sponsors.
The fair provided a platform for direct engagement between students and industry professionals.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Julhash Uddin inaugurated the fair at 9am. Following the opening, students visited company booths, submitted CVs, engaged with industry representatives, and explored employment and internship opportunities.
Twenty-seven organisations participated, including Centro Tex, Swiss Chroma, Babylon Group, Ha-Meem Group, Oeko-Tex Group, Urmi Group, Purbani Group, Apilion, AKH Group, Pacific Jeans, Charka Textiles Limited, Bitopi Group, Summit Dye Chemicals Limited, Florence Group, Unique Color Chemicals, and Ben-Tech Chemicals. Several companies also conducted on-the-spot interviews.
A panel discussion, 'How geopolitics is reshaping the textile industry and new directions for fresh graduates', was held at 11am.
Speakers included Tareq Amin, founder and chief executive officer, Textile Today Innovation Hub; Mohammad Shahed Sikder, executive director, Swiss Chroma Bangladesh Limited; Md Nur Hossain, assistant general manager, merchandising, Fashion Power Group; Mahmudul Hasan Bhuiyan, head of organisational development, Babylon Group; and Md Zafar Iqbal, general manager, merchandising, Centro.
Zaidur Rahman, assistant general manager, Centro, led a workshop on the company and offered career guidance to students.
Professor Dr Md Julhash Uddin addressed the closing ceremony as chief guest. Engr Ehsanul Karim Kaysar, convener, ITET interim committee; Engr Md Enayet Hossain, member secretary; and Engr AKM Mohsin Ahmed, chief executive officer, Radical Design Limited, were present as special guests.
Speakers stated that the fair enabled fresh graduates to connect directly with leading textile and apparel companies and would help strengthen industry–academia collaboration.
Md Tanvirul Islam Jiyan, president, and Md Shahriar Alam Pabel, general secretary, BUTEX Career Club, affirmed the club's commitment to organising future events to foster students' leadership skills and career readiness.
