BRAC University celebrates Victory Day with cultural programme
BRAC University hosted "Bijoy Utshob 2025" on its Merul Badda campus today (Wednesday, 17 December 2025) marking the nation's 54th Victory Day.
The programme featured poetry recitations, traditional dances and songs celebrating Bangladesh's struggle for independence.
Members of Chhayanaut and BRAC University Cultural Club curated the event to narrate the journey from the Language Movement in 1947 to the Liberation War in 1971.
In his welcome address, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury said that history should not remain confined to textbooks but be presented as a "living experience". He emphasised cultural practices and education for understanding the significance of the struggle and victory.
Special guest Dr Sarwar Ali, president of Chhayanaut's Executive Council, urged that debates over martyr numbers should not overshadow sacrifices or distort history. He highlighted the role of Bangla songs in national movements and called for promoting culture to overcome intolerance.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Registrar Dr David Dowland, Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, and other dignitaries attended the event, which concluded with the national anthem and was broadcast live on Channel i.
