Brac reached 2.6 crore people in 2025
Brac, Bangladesh's largest development organisation, reports that 312,000 ultra-poor families have graduated from extreme poverty in the past five years through its interventions.
In 2025, Brac supported nearly 26 million people nationwide, equivalent to one in every seven Bangladeshis.
Further highlighting these efforts, the organisation unveiled its Annual Report 2025 during a media briefing at Brac Centre in the capital's Mohakhali on 12 May.
Brac Executive Director Asif Saleh was present, along with KAM Morshed, Senior Director for Advocacy, Communications and Engagement, AFM Shahidur Rahman, Director for Legal, Risk Management, Safeguarding and Social Compliance, and other senior officials.
Among Brac's 2025 initiatives, 19 million women and over 22,300 persons with disabilities received support.
Women accounted for two-thirds of Brac's direct beneficiaries. Brac's assistance spanned multiple sectors, covering health, education, financial inclusion, water and sanitation, climate adaptation, disaster response, migration, and skills development.
Brac improved the income and capabilities of marginalised communities. This was achieved through microfinance, ultra-poor graduation programmes, and skills training.
Over the past five years, nearly Tk1,000 crore in productive assets and Tk29,000 crore to Tk48,500 crore in loans were disbursed.
Brac increased total loan disbursement from Tk29,000 crore to Tk48,500 crore during the same period.
Brac Executive Director Asif Saleh said, "Brac Bank was established to support the SME sector when banks primarily focused on large corporations. Today, nearly 47% of Brac Bank's portfolio is dedicated to SMEs."
He added, "The microfinance programme is now self-sustaining and generates surplus income. With the Microfinance Regulatory Authority's approval, around 20% of that surplus may be allocated to social development initiatives. Turning to health, Brac facilitated safe delivery services for 210,000 mothers over the past five years. five years.
During this time, Brac screened 350,000 people for non-communicable diseases, disabilities, and eye conditions.
Brac identified and brought more than 100,000 tuberculosis patients under treatment.
In education, 64,400 students completed Brac's programmes over the past five years, and 56% of graduates were girls.
Additionally, 1,740 schools received safe drinking water, sanitation, and handwashing facilities for over 80,800. Focusing next on women's empowerment and social justice programmes, 98,600 women and children received legal aid in cases of violence and abuse over the past five years. five years.
Brac enrolled over 10,200 adolescent girls in confidence-building and leadership development programmes.
In 2025, participants directly prevented 2,237 children. Regarding climate resilience and disaster preparedness, nearly 110,000 disaster-affected families received humanitarian assistance. assistance.
About 13,300 families benefited from climate adaptation support. In disaster-prone regions, 105,729 people gained access to safe water through climate-resilient technology. In response to environmental concerns, Brac also released its IFRS S1 and S2 disclosure report, outlining measures to address environmental and climate-related risks.lated risks.
Brac is installing rooftop solar systems at 32 of its institutions, which are expected to meet around 55% of their electricity needs.
A Brac-run plastic recycling centre in Cox's Bazar is projected to reduce approximately 1,272 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Brac plans to use nature-based solutions to help retain nearly 2,700 tonnes of carbon annually.
Over the next five years, Brac will focus on inclusive development for women and youth, creating jobs, ensuring access to quality education, enhancing financial inclusion, strengthening primary healthcare, and building climate resilience, with clear, measurable targets for each area.
The organisation aims to create one million jobs. It plans to assist 190,000 students in bridging learning gaps, bring 20 million people under financial services, and disburse Tk150,000 crore in loans annually.
