BOU vice-chancellor attends education conference in Japan
Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU), has returned home after attending a five-day international programme held in Hiroshima, Japan.
He left Dhaka for Japan on 28 October 2025 to attend the event titled "The Journey of Digital Transformation of Education in Bangladesh Programme" as a special guest. The programme was jointly organised by Hiroshima Public University and the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA-COL).
During the event, Professor Dr Obaidul Islam delivered a keynote speech highlighting the digital transformation of Bangladesh's higher education sector, the expansion of open and distance learning, and the country's progress in technology-based education.
He also underscored the role of Bangladesh Open University in democratising education and ensuring access for all — a contribution that received high praise at the international forum.
The Vice-Chancellor's participation is expected to open new avenues for international collaboration and research for BOU.
Mr Sohail Ahmed, Joint Director of the university's Media Division, accompanied the Vice-Chancellor during the visit.
