DU Academic Council nominates Reenat Fowzia to Senate
The Academic Council of the University of Dhaka has nominated Professor Reenat Fowzia, of the Government College of Applied Human Sciences (formerly Home Economics College), as a member of the university's Senate.
The appointment was confirmed in an official order issued by the university on 2 June 2026, under Article 20(1)(i) of the University of Dhaka Order, 1973.
Professor Fowzia is a member of the 14th BCS Education Cadre.
She is the granddaughter of maestro Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, and the daughter of music researcher Mobarak Hossain Khan—former director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy—and vocalist Fowzia Khan.
Professor Fowzia is also an acclaimed sitar artiste, lyricist and composer.
In 2005, she participated in the International Visitor Programme at the invitation of the US government.
She was also selected for the Rotary Group Study Exchange Programme in 1996, visiting Rotary District Texas after receiving a Rotary Award.
She earned further recognition after representing Bangladesh as a sitar performer at the Bengal Music Festival in 2013.
Professor Fowzia holds an MPhil in music from the University of Dhaka and has authored several books on music and home economics.
She expressed gratitude to the authorities of the University of Dhaka for her nomination to the Senate.
