Airport authorities say flight operations remained unaffected by the incident
A fire broke out at the cargo village complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka late tonight (5 June).
Two firefighting units rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within 14 minutes, confirmed Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Rashed Bin Khalid.
According to the Fire Service, the fire was reported near Gate No 9 of the cargo village at 11:24pm.
Two airport-based firefighting units responded immediately and managed to control the fire by 11:38pm.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damages could not be immediately determined.
Dhaka airport Executive Director Group Captain Ragib Samad told TBS that the fire originated inside and beside a container in the courier operation area of the airport.
"As soon as the information was received at around 11:25pm, firefighting teams from the airport's Fire Service and Civil Defence, and the adjacent Air Force Base AK Khandaker rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control quickly," he said.
"The fire is now fully under control. However, we are examining whether there is any hidden source of fire or possibility of reignition," he added.
He also said flight operations at the airport remained uninterrupted during the incident.
Last year, on 18 October, a major fire broke out at the airport's cargo village.
