BMU holds rally marking World Sjögren’s Day
Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) held an awareness rally on Thursday (23 July) to mark World Sjögren's Day 2026 and raise awareness of the chronic autoimmune disease.
The university's Department of Rheumatology organised the rally, which began in front of Block B and proceeded through different parts of the campus.
Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Development at BMU, inaugurated the rally as chief guest.
Professor Dr Md Abu Shaheen, Chairman of the Department of Rheumatology; Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam; Professor Dr Minhaj Rahim Choudhury; Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Ariful Islam; and Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Shoeb Momen Majumder attended the event.
Faculty members, doctors and residents of the department also joined the rally.
Sjögren's disease is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the glands that produce saliva and tears.
Its main symptoms are severe dryness of the eyes and mouth. The disease is more commonly found among women over the age of 40.
