BMCCI holds 24th annual general meeting
The Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) held its 24th annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at Renaissance Dhaka in Gulshan.
The AGM brought together members, past presidents and board colleagues, reaffirming BMCCI's position as an active bilateral chamber in Bangladesh.
Presiding over the meeting, BMCCI President Shabbir A Khan reviewed the chamber's activities and achievements in 2025 while outlining challenges ahead. He said the AGM served not only as a forum to assess the previous year's performance but also as an opportunity to engage with members and align future priorities with their expectations.
The AGM highlighted BMCCI's progress in promoting bilateral trade and investment. During the year, the chamber strengthened engagement with Malaysian counterparts, including MATRADE, MIDA and MDEC, enabling closer institutional collaboration. A memorandum of understanding between the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and MATRADE was signed during MIHAS 2025, opening new avenues for Bangladeshi exporters.
BMCCI also focused on advancing the halal economy by organising the seminar "Halal Economy 360: Driving global growth" and projecting Bangladesh's potential to achieve $7–8 billion in exports to Malaysia by 2030.
Another milestone discussed at the AGM was BMCCI's entry into the semiconductor sector. The chamber facilitated the signing of memoranda of understanding with MIMOS and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy (ASEM) in Malaysia. Witnessed by two heads of state, these agreements marked the first government-to-business memoranda in 53 years of diplomatic relations and aim to support training programmes for Bangladeshi engineers in integrated circuit design and semiconductor innovation.
Looking ahead, the president announced that BMCCI would celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026 with year-long programmes, adding that a commemorative logo would be unveiled soon. He said, "BMCCI stands as one of the leading joint chambers in Bangladesh, recognised both at home and abroad. With unity and determination, we will continue to uphold our role as a trusted platform for bilateral cooperation and economic progress."
Secretary General Md Motaher Hoshan Khan presented the annual activity report for 2025, outlining the chamber's initiatives throughout the year. During the discussion session, past presidents Syed Almas Kabir and Syed Moazzam Hossain praised the chamber's recent initiatives and the current board's role in strengthening bilateral ties and expanding new areas of cooperation.
The AGM concluded with the approval of audited accounts and the appointment of auditors for 2026.
