bKash tightens security for card-based Add Money service
bKash has introduced biometric verification and a 24-hour waiting period for newly saved cards to strengthen security for its card-based Add Money service.
According to a press release, customers using a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card for the first time must save their card in the bKash app.
The requirement will not apply to cards already saved in the app.
To save a card, users must undergo biometric verification by taking a live selfie, which is then matched against the National Identity Card photograph submitted during bKash account registration.
Customers must also complete a Tk500 Add Money transaction when saving the card. They can use the saved card for regular Add Money transactions 24 hours after it's saved.
Each bKash account can have up to five saved cards.
The service allows customers to instantly transfer money from supported cards to their bKash accounts and use the funds for online and in-store purchases, utility bill payments, savings deposits and insurance premium payments, among other services.
bKash said it continued to invest in security technologies and work with industry partners as digital financial services expanded.
The company expects the measures to improve transaction security, maintain a seamless user experience and strengthen confidence in the country's digital payment ecosystem.
