bKash deploys Bangla QR at over 800,000 merchant outlets
bKash has rolled out Bangla QR codes at over 800,000 merchant outlets across Bangladesh, marking the largest deployment of its kind as part of Bangladesh Bank's push to expand digital payments nationwide.
According to the company, customers can use bKash and other digital wallets to make cashless payments at these outlets. Transactions through the merchant network now average over Tk200 crore daily.
Customers can scan Bangla QR codes at neighbourhood grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, lifestyle brands, and major retail chains to pay digitally.
bKash said it has made significant investments and expanded its operational capacity to complete what it describes as the country's largest Bangla QR rollout, meeting the timeline set by Bangladesh Bank.
To boost adoption, the company has launched promotional offers at 45,000 merchant outlets. Customers making payments through the bKash app by scanning Bangla QR codes can receive cashback and discount coupons worth up to Tk10,000.
The company has also introduced digital payment speakers that provide instant confirmation of transactions. The technology, according to bKash, reduces processing time and makes payments more convenient and secure for customers and merchants.
Additionally, bKash has launched a pilot programme with BRAC Bank to provide merchants with instant, short-term digital loans.
Eligible merchants can access collateral-free financing through their merchant accounts, with loan eligibility determined by transaction history and merchant ratings.
bKash said it continues to promote digital payments through year-round cashback offers, discounts, and campaigns, supporting Bangladesh's transition towards a cashless economy.
