BICM hosts research seminar on alternative sukuk structures

The Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) held its 47th Research Seminar today (21 August 2025) in the institute's multipurpose hall.
Mejbah Uddin Ahmed, Research Fellow at ISRA Institute, Insif University, Malaysia, presented the keynote paper titled "Alternative Sukuk Structures to Finance Development Projects Without Raising Debt."
The seminar was chaired by BICM's Executive President (Acting), Nazmus Salehin. Ishtekmal Hossain, Director of the Debt Management Department at the Bangladesh Bank, and Dr Abdur Rahman, Director and Associate Professor of the Islamic Finance, Banking, and Insurance Programme at Eastern University, spoke as panellists.
The discussion was moderated by Faisal Ahmed Khan, Associate Professor (Current Charge) at BICM. Co-authors of the paper included Professor Dr Obiatullah Ismat Bacha of Insif University, Dr Marjan Muhammad, Deputy President of Research at ISRA Institute, and Dr Noor Suhaida Kasri, Senior Research Fellow at ISRA Institute.
Faculty members, officials, and invited guests from relevant sectors attended the event, which was part of BICM's regular research seminar series aimed at enhancing the quality of research within the institute and advancing the development of the sukuk market. The seminar provided a platform for key stakeholders to discuss practical applications of alternative sukuk structures, encouraging collaboration and fostering research that may inform future financial strategies and policy recommendations.
