Bank Asia agent banking introduces wet market collection service
For the first time, Bank Asia Agent Banking introduced a bazaar-centric customer service initiative called "Wet Market Collection."
This initiative aims to simplify, secure, and digitise the cash handling process for small—and large-scale traders operating in local markets, making daily transactions more efficient and reliable.
Mr. Ziaul Hasan, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Channel Banking and CAMLCO, inaugurated the initiative at a program held at Genda Bazar, Savar, outskirts of Capital Dhaka, on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. Mr. K. M. Farid, President of the Genda Bazar Babosahi Society, Mr Ashraf Uddin Khan Shahin, market owner, and senior bank officials were also present at the programme.
Bank Asia has developed an extensive network of agents over the last 11 years, comprising 5,036 agents, with 70% of the agents operating in bazaars. The vast network has enabled the effective distribution of touchpoints in rural areas of the country, along with the strategic placement of agents inside bazaars, facilitating Bank Asia Agent Banking to become the preferred solution for the targeted stakeholders. Furthermore, the transaction limit and the exclusivity of space for agent operations have created a sense of trustworthiness among wet market customers for such payments.
The app-based initiative marks a groundbreaking step in Bank Asia's journey toward financial inclusion. It will facilitate faster, safer, and tech-driven cash transactions for local stakeholders in the wet market. Bank Asia plans to gradually roll out this service to other wet markets nationwide, further expanding access to a secure and digital financial solution.
