Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Seychelles presents credentials

His Excellency Dr Zokey Ahad, non-resident High Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Seychelles, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan in a formal ceremony held at the State House today.
Dr Ahad succeeds Her Excellency Rezina Ahmed, who had been accredited since August 6, 2019.
President Ramkalawan warmly welcomed Dr Ahad and accepted his Letter of Credence as the new High Commissioner. The President extended his best wishes for Dr Ahad's tenure and conveyed his greetings to the Hon'ble President and Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh.
He also expressed deep solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and offered condolences for the victims of the recent Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crash in Dhaka.
In response, Dr Ahad conveyed the warm greetings of the Hon'ble President of Bangladesh and expressed gratitude to the Government of Seychelles for the cordial welcome and cooperation extended to him since his arrival. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the existing friendly relations and promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The High Commissioner highlighted Bangladesh's socio-economic progress, especially in the readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, jute, leather, and other industrial sectors. He also appreciated Seychelles for employing Bangladeshi workers in its industrial and agricultural sectors.
Both sides expressed optimism about exploring new avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit. They discussed several bilateral issues and agreed to collaborate on deepening trade, business, and investment ties.
President Ramkalawan praised Bangladesh's visible development progress and noted that Seychelles could benefit from Bangladesh's experience in various sectors.
Dr Ahad expressed Bangladesh's interest in developing its blue economy and acknowledged that, while lacking sufficient expertise and technology in the area, Bangladesh is eager to learn from Seychelles and enhance cooperation.
On behalf of the Hon'ble President of Bangladesh, Dr Ahad extended an invitation to President Ramkalawan to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Seychelles State House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Md Jahangir Alam, First Secretary (Political) and Head of Chancery, also attended the ceremony, which concluded with a guard of honour.
Dr Ahad joined the Bangladesh Mission in Port Louis, Mauritius, on June 9, 2024. A career diplomat from the 17th batch of the BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre, he joined the service in 1998 and has served extensively both at home and abroad, including in Beijing, The Hague, Manchester, Kolkata, and Kunming.
