Bangladesh hosts 2nd International Conference on Fiber and Polymer Materials
The 2nd International Conference on Fiber and Polymer Materials (ICFP 2025) commenced in Dhaka on Tuesday, bringing together global experts, academics, and industry leaders. Organized by the Society of Fiber Science, Bangladesh (SFSB) in collaboration with International Standard University (ISU) and the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), the two-day event is being held at the BUTEX campus in Tejgaon, running from 26–27 August 2025 with sessions from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The conference is presided over by Professor Dr. M.A. Barique, President of SFSB and faculty member at Shizuoka University, Japan. Distinguished international participants include Professor Takeshi Kikutani (Former President, The Fiber Society of Japan), Professor Caroline L. Schauer (President, Fiber Society USA), Dr. Rudolf Hufenus (EMPA, Switzerland), Professor Suwabun Chirachanchai (Thailand), Professor Seeram Ramakrishna (Singapore), Professor Han Yong (Korea), Professor Shuichi Tanoue (President, Japan Society of Textile Machinery), and Professor Koji Nakane (Japan).
Bangladeshi experts participating in the event include Professor Dr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of BUTEX; Professor Mohammad Abul Kashem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, ISU; Professor HTM Quader Newaz, Treasurer, ISU; and Professor Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman (EUB), alongside researchers, policymakers, and students from leading institutions across the country.
Professor Dr. M.A. Barique highlighted that the conference aims to connect Bangladesh's textile and polymer sectors with global research and technology, opening new opportunities in areas beyond textiles, including healthcare, environmental protection, space research, and renewable energy. Speakers emphasized that the event will facilitate knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and innovative product development, further strengthening Bangladesh's position in the global textile and polymer industry.
Key topics of discussion include sustainable textiles, eco-friendly fibers, electronic and medical textiles, nano-fibers, recycled fibers, muslin, geotextiles, carbon and glass fibers, spinning, weaving, wet processing, polymer development for fiber production, fiber structure and properties, composites, fiber-based materials, and the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The organizers expressed optimism that ICFP 2025 will foster innovation, research, and collaboration, creating long-term benefits for Bangladesh's textile and polymer industries.
