Algerian embassy commemorates National Mujahid Day in Dhaka

The Algerian Embassy in Bangladesh marked National Mujahid Day in Dhaka with a flag-raising ceremony, led by Mme Basma Bentaleb, Chargé d'affaires, and attended by diplomats, business leaders, media, and civil society, according to a press release.
National Mujahid Day pays tribute to the North Constantine Offensive (1955) and the Soummam Conference (1956), which were decisive events in Algeria's historic campaign to achieve independence from colonial rule.
In her keynote address, Mme Bentaleb paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Algerian people in their fight against colonial rule. "The events of August 20, 1955, and August 20, 1956 are indelibly etched in the history of our revolution," she said. "They represent two crucial pillars of our independence: sacrifice and resistance, embodied in the blood of Constantine, and organisation and vision, forged in the Soummam Conference."
She described how the brutal colonial response to the Constantine uprising, despite its tragic cost, galvanised Algerian resolve. She also emphasised how the Soummam Conference transformed the revolution by shaping its political and military direction, paving the way for the establishment of the Provisional Government of Algeria.
Participants observed a moment of silence to honour Algeria's fallen heroes at the end of the programme, then joined a cultural segment celebrating Algerian heritage. The embassy extended its gratitude to all friends of Algeria in Bangladesh who attended the commemoration.
