AIUB World Cup 2026 kicks off with 48 teams
The AIUB World Cup 2026 football tournament opened on Tuesday at the American International University–Bangladesh campus, with 48 departmental teams competing.
Nadia Anwar, founder member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of AIUB, inaugurated the tournament at an opening ceremony on 28 July, according to a press release inviting students, faculty members and administrative officials.
Professor Dr Manzur H Khan, proctor of AIUB; Dr Ziarat H Khan, deputy director of Student Services and Welfare; Md Joynal Abedin, coordinator of the Office of Sports; and students, faculty members and administrative officials attended the event.
In her opening remarks, Nadia Anwar thanked the Office of Sports, volunteers and participating teams for organising the tournament.
She said the competition would provide students with opportunities to develop teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
The university said the 48 departmental teams reflected the growing popularity of the football championship and its role in promoting interaction among students from different departments.
All matches are being broadcast live on the official Facebook page of AIUB's Office of Sports.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August.
