600 Runners, One Goal—A Healthier and Prosperous Bangladesh

Following the historic July uprising, the primary goal of Bangladesh's reformation has been to build a nation free from impunity, corruption, and inequality. This new chapter, Bangladesh 2.0, driven by youth-led movements, requires patriotism, responsibility, and awareness of health and well-being for its successful implementation.
However, challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, mental health issues, and food adulteration pose significant threats to our health. Acknowledging these realities, 600 runners came together yesterday at Hatirjheel, Dhaka, to promote the importance of health and well-being as a commitment to build a stronger and more prosperous Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre (BYLC), the country's first leadership training institution, organised BYLC Running with Purpose 2025—Transform Your Health Transform Bangladesh on February 8, 2025, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This annual event highlights the importance of safeguarding health while contributing to Bangladesh's reformation.
With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, the 7.5-kilometer race, BYLC Running with Purpose 2025: Transform Your Health, Transform Bangladesh, saw the participation of 600 runners from diverse backgrounds. Participants, representing different age groups and professions, came together to emphasise the importance of prioritising health and fulfilling their responsibilities toward the nation.
In his speech as the chief guest, Thijs Woudstra, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, said, "I may not be Gen Z, but it's inspiring to be in a country where that generation made its voice heard last August. Every time I'm in Bangladesh, I see a beautiful nation unfolding. Running around Hatirjheel Lake in the morning sun, you can feel the vibrant energy and the pulse of healthy, hopeful people. It's truly invigorating. I hope to see this stage overflowing with the energy of youth and Gen Z, running towards a healthier, better Bangladesh."
"Bangladeshi youth's commitment to progress reflects our transformative spirit. Yet, true development begins with individual well-being. Without robust health, our collective dreams and personal aspirations remain beyond reach. This understanding inspired our theme: 'Transform Your Health, Transform Bangladesh.' For it is only when we prioritise our health that we unlock the potential to achieve our dreams and build the Bangladesh we envision," said Ejaj Ahmad, founder and executive chairperson of Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center, speaking at the BYLC Run 2025 award ceremony.
At the prize-giving ceremony, the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi stated, "Young people are the driving force behind Bangladesh's future. We are committed to creating an environment where they can thrive, lead, and shape their paths. Through the Entrepreneurship Policy, we aim to create jobs, support startups, and bridge the gap between skills and meaningful opportunities." He also connected his speech to the Festival of Youth 2025 theme—"Change the country to change the world." Emphasising the role of youth in national development, he highlighted that empowering young people today will create a lasting impact on the world.
In the closing ceremony, BYLC's Executive Director, Tahsinah Ahmed, expressed her gratitude to all the runners, special guests, and partner organisations for their support in making the event a success.
This event is part of the Festival of Youth 2025, organised by the People's Republic of Bangladesh government. The Bangladesh Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports also supported the organisation of this running event.
This event was supported by Indulge Food and Beverage Ltd., the food and medical partner, and Praava Health, a leading healthcare provider. Additionally, Elite Force, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Hatirjheel Police Station provided security and logistical support to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
For over a decade, BYLC has been bridging gaps among youth from Bangla, English, and Madrasah education backgrounds, fostering leadership skills and empowering them to contribute effectively in government, private, and civic sectors. Over the past 16 years, BYLC has provided leadership training to over 7,500 young individuals and professional development training to over 3,700 youth.
