No need for dollars, now mobile roaming bills can be paid in Taka
The Foreign Exchange Policy Department (FEPD) of the central bank issued a circular in this regard today

The Bangladesh Bank now allows the mobile operators to receive roaming bills in Taka.
Earlier, Bangladeshi travellers had to make payments in foreign currency through international cards to use roaming services.
The Foreign Exchange Policy Department (FEPD) of the central bank issued a circular in this regard today (24 April).
According to the circular, to make roaming services easier for resident Bangladeshi travellers, it has been decided that mobile operators in Bangladesh can accept payments from a customer in Taka, up to a maximum of Tk6,000 per trip and Tk30,000 over a calendar year.
Mobile operators are asked to follow certain instructions while activating roaming services.
The limit cannot exceed in aggregate for the use of more than one mobile number or operator. The traveller shall have a valid visa and ticket. Roaming services should be activated one week before the journey, the circular noted.
The circular also allows mobile operators to make payments to network operators abroad.
In this case, banks need to comply with some instructions, as per the circular.
