BFIU chief Shahinul’s transactions under scrutiny
The BFIU chief is currently on mandatory leave following the circulation of a “compromising video” allegedly featuring him on social media

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) is scrutinising transactions linked to its head AFM Shahinul Islam.
A BFIU official, wishing anonymity, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard this evening (25 August).
The official said account details of Shahinul's wife Suma Islam are also being reviewed.
On 19 August, Bangladesh Bank sent Shahinul Islam on mandatory leave after a "compromising video" allegedly featuring him went viral on social media.
Although Shahinul denied the authenticity of the clips, claiming they were fake, a preliminary fact-check by the central bank confirmed the videos to be genuine.
The controversial videos of Shahinul, initially shared via WhatsApp and Messenger groups last Thursday, went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism. The central bank's IT department has been tasked with verifying the authenticity of the videos.
In addition, allegations have emerged against him over allowing nearly Tk19 crore to be withdrawn from a frozen account of Ena Paribahan owner Khandaker Enayet Ullah.
On 20 August, the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has formed a four-member committee to verify the authenticity of the viral "compromising video".
The committee, headed by the ministry's Additional Secretary Saeed Qutub, has been asked to submit its findings along with recommendations within seven working days.
