Attempt of sending expats stumbles with cancelled flights

The attempt to send the expatriates back to Saudi Arabia got stumbled at the beginning as most of the flights were cancelled on Saturday.
Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, managing director and chief executive officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines told The Business Standard, "Today six flights were scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia but only the Zeddah flight will be operated at 6 pm."
Mentioning the reason behind the cancellation of flights, he said, "We did not get landing permission for the Riyadh flight. Besides, other flights had to cancel due to various reasons such as some passengers could not complete PCR test, some were Covid-19 positive and some have refunded tickets."

"As a result, the number of passengers has decreased and we were bound to cancel flights," he added.
However, he said that there has not been any decision about the flights of tomorrow. Till now, all flights of tomorrow are scheduled to fly.

Asim Uddin, a Saudi bound worker from Feni, said, "My flight was at 2.50 pm today to Dammam and I reached around 9 am here at the airport. But after coming here, we were informed that all Saudi bound flights got cancelled."
"The authority did not tell us anything about the next flights. If they had informed us before, we would not have suffered by coming here amid lockdown."
