The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) through its affiliated organisations has provided assistance worth about Tk27 crore to the poor affected by the Covid-19 shutdown.

PKSF, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the non-government organisations have distributed emergency food items worth about Tk8.5 crore among 1.34 lakh families.

The agencies have also distributed protective gear like PPE, hand gloves, soaps, sanitisers and face masks to various individuals and service providers at a cost of Tk12.37 crore, PKSF added.

Officers and employees of PKSF-affiliated organisations have donated an amount equal to their one day's basic salary (approximately Tk3.35 crore in total) to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Additionally, they provided about Tk2.07 crore in cash to the funds of local people's representatives and local administration to help the Covid-19 infected people, according to the statement.

Besides, some organisations are providing health services to Covid-19 sufferers by forming their own medical teams of doctors and nurses.

Some affiliated organisations of PKSF have also arranged accommodation in their offices, guesthouses and training centres for doctors and nurses who are treating Covid-19 patients.

Moreover, some organisations are assisting in the hospitalisation of critical coronavirus patients.

At the same time, the affiliated organisations have continued their public awareness campaigns in their respective workstation areas, PKSF further said in the statement
