Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has tested positive for novel coronavirus.

Confirming the matter, the ministry's Public Relations Officer Mir Akram Uddin said, "The minister is currently being treated at a private hospital in Dhaka."

"He has sought prayers from all for his speedy recovery," said Mir Akram, adding that physically he is doing well.

On October 13, Planning Minister MA Mannan tested positive with Covid-19 and is currently being treated at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

Earlier on June, the first minister to contact the virus was the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing. Later, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Sahab Uddin, and State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP also tested positive with coronavirus infection.

Meanwhile, coronavirus infection cases in Bangladesh stood at 386,086 on Friday (October 16) with the detection of 1,527 new cases in 24 hours.

Health authorities also announced 15 more deaths during the period, taking total fatalities to 5,623.
